Christmas Traditions 2008

We have alot of fun over Christmas. It started this year with our extended family getting together for a family Home Evening. The Wiggles appeared and brought alot of cheer together with Father Christmas also coming.
Then it was off to Carols by Candlelight on a very hot and humid day. Jan and I got there around 1pm so it was a long day , but a good one.

A Wedding Festival
Cara and Dave were married in the LDS Temple on Saturday 6/12/08. It was a great day. Lots of family and friends were able to celebrate their union. As her parents, we are very happy for them both.
This 1st photo is out the front of the Adelaide Temple. Other photos still to come will include Temple, Park, and reception ones with a few 'Hen's night' ones thrown in also.

Cara's and Dave's Wedding Part 2
To Dear Cara and Dave
Well it's less than 2 weeks to the big day. The guest list is being finalised with rsvp's still coming in ( some are overdue) and the wedding cake has started being made and stored in the freezer. Mt Osmond Caterer's have excited us with their proposed menu and venue. This weekend the bridesmaids had dress fittings. Bali has been discussed with both parents and it's still the place for the honeymoon? So it's all coming together. While all these things are exciting, without doubt, the Temple Sealing will be the focus, such is it's importance.
I promised part 2 of 'Why marry in the Temple?"
Why
1. because your marriage can continue forever
2. have your family stretch in both directions joined together in a family organization forever
3. have the opportunity of Eternal increase
4. have the opportunity to become like your Heavenly Parents
5 you will receive special blessings that come from making and keeping sacred covenants
6. because it tells you something about each other
a) you both believe in spiritual goals
b) you have both qualified and are worthy to enter the Temple
c) both are willing to make committments to God, each other and to self.
On the day of your Temple Sealing encourage all to wear their Sunday Best clothes. Let this sacred ceremony be the greatest spiritual experience of your life. The photo's and reception later while nice shouldn't detract from the Temple. Your day should be a Spiritual experience with a touch of the social, not the other way around.
Does a Temple Sealing guarantee you will live happily ever after?
Of course there may be disagreements, auguments, moments of despair and times of trial particularly in the early years. There will lots of questions-How much can Cara spend on a dress? Can Dave become a member of the Collingwood Cheer squad? Learn to avoid contention in your home from Day 1. Discuss with love those things that mean alot to you. Seek for your partners welfare in ALL you do. Don't go to bed on an augument. Live within your means. Avoid debt. Express love often and show forgiveness willingly.
Having been sealed in the Temple will give you an 'edge' in your relationship with each other as you live up to the covenants you have made. Remember you are building a relationship that will live thru eternity. That can and will occur so long as you both love Heavenly Father and live his teachings. One day you will wake up and realize you are married to the most wonderful, beautiful person in the world and you'll thank God for the fact that you can be together forever.
Jan and I celebrate 32 years of marrige this week. The effort needed over this time is worth it as she still would be my choice if I had to make it all over again.
We love you both and pray the Lord will bless your union.
Love

Santa Claus Concert for Alyssa

Ah, 3 minutes of entertainment to watch spread over 3 hours. Too bad it wasn't 3 hours of just watching the youngest class perform. Alyssa looks so grown up and pretty and did she just ooze with talent.
Now there's a star in the making I'm thinking. Maybe we'll get to see some more at the Xmas Family Home Evening. ( more pictures to follow as the program isn't downloading too well at the moment)

Sleepover at Grandma's

This weekend saw Jake, Alyssa and Maddie stay over Friday night. It was off to the playground and then back for supper. Can they eat! Doesn't their parents feed them? Then it was into bed because tomorrow will be the pagent.
It drizzled alittle but we still had a great time watching the magic of Xmas. Jake read up on which floats were new and gave us a running commentary of what to expect. A fun night and day for all pf us.

Xmas comes early to the Fire Station

We had our Xmas get together at Largs North Station on Saturday night for the "B" shift crew. All the wives came and most of their children who enjoyed playing 8 ball and table tennis. I think some of the women were alittle nervous but it turned out to be a fun night. We didn't have Santa come tho, just a relaxing night telling a few tales, most were true

10 scarey little people visit
Mike had a headless dummy he made look very scary by adding some blood? around a knife wound. Or was it his boss from work? who had given Mike a hard time.
Anyway Jan and I were ready for them with this dead person hanging up at the front door and a lolly bag for each little person visiting.
They also went to our neighbours where Lisa and Chelsea gave them chocolate.
Hopefully they will come back again soon and visit....................................if they dare.

Jan and Nanna's Birthday
Once again we celebrated 2 birthdays in 2 days. The weather was nice so both meals were outside. Unfortunatley on the 2nd night, 1 million flies who had done a reconnisent flyover the previous night, returned and stayed. The meal eventually was finished inside. I think it was the smell of the BBQ Pork and Chicken that attracted them. It was a fun 2 nights having extended family over. We got to eat 2 chocolate cakes. Yummy!
Can you pick which one Janice made?

Cara's And Dave's Melbourne Engagement party
We can get used to partying in 2 states every time there is a special occasion. Ric and Janelle were gracious hosts opening their home to around 100 people. Lots of nice pressies again, this time from Melbourne family and friends. AS you can see Cara was well suntanned and looked radiant.
It was a rushed weekend with me driving the 'Clickettymobil' home to Adelaide in the hope of selling the 'Lanny' allowing Jan and Mike to come home on the Plane. ( Luxury!!)
Hard to believe it's less than 6 weeks to go

Fay's 58 and still looking great!
Off to the Semaphore Palais for celebrations and fun on Friday 10 October. Fay has survived 3 marriages, one son (soon to be married), 2 crazy sisters and a host of nieces and nephews. She is a fun person to be with as her birthday celebration photos show.
Hey, if you want to go to the Palais, it's a great venue. We had a fun night. Only 2 more until the BIG 60 Faysie!!!!
Then it will be Pension time!!
Followed by a 'Walker, incontinent pads and the Nursing Home". Something to look forward to. Lucky I married the youngest and prettiest? sister and still have a way to go yet.

Long weekend Camping at Nuriootpa
Our traditional camping at 'Nuri' happened on the October Long weekend. Janice, Jerry and Jesse came for the first time. Abbey brought Nathan for a day trip on Saturday. My cousin Kathy also visited on the Saturday with her 3 children. Anything to get on my blog!! This is my 1st 'crossover blog' with pictures of Kathy's children also on mine. (I got my idea of blogging from Kathy.)
Anyway it poured on the Friday when Jan and I were trying to set up all the tents. SO we got a little wet. The new tent leaked in alot of places , so some gear also got wet. Not a good start! Jeff and his kids arrived late friday night and it was still raining so it was over to the Camp Kitchen for some serious late food, hot milo's and dunking yoyo's. It was getting better already.
Fortunately the weather improved overnight and sat/sun was great camping weather.
The rest of the family together with Lola, Matt and Amy arrived Sat am. After lunch it was into a game of softball. Lindssay, Lynise chelsea, Anika9 From Germany), Rochelle and Aaron also came and played. Noone kept score, lots of cheating and sledging and some great hits enabled everyone to have alot of fun.
Then Jeff, Jerry and I took on Aaron and Lindsay in tennis. A close game with Lin winning 7-5. Boy was everyone saw after that.
I ended up getting called into work so I missed sleeping in the tent with Jesse crying alittle-alot. Shame about that.
I came back on Sunday about 8am for a egg and bacon breaky. Very nice. We had a lazy morning and then we packed up to come home. We all crashed around 9pm.
Next time away will be 2009 as Cara's wedding is now the focus for October, November and December. It's hard to believe only 60 more sleeps for Clicketty
A great weekend. Hopefully next year we will see more come again
